SUMMARY:EU Celebrates Europe Day 9 May 2024 in Thailand
DESCRIPTION:On the 9 May 2024 the delegation of the European Union celebrates ‘Europe Day in Bangkok with representatives of the EU states\, their commerce offices as well as with the Government  of Thailand. \nIt will be 60 years since the Europe Day held on 9 May every year was kicked of celebrating peace and unity in Europe. The date marks the anniversary of the historic ‘ Schuman declaration ‘ that set out his idea for a new form of political cooperation in Europe\, which would make war between Europe’s nations unthinkable. \nThe first recognition of Europe Day was by the Council of Europe\, introduced in 1964. The European Union later started to celebrate its own European Day in commemoration of the 9 May 1950 Schuman Declaration which first proposed the European Coal and Steel Community\, leading it to be referred to by some as “Schuman Day” or “Day of the united Europe”. Both days are celebrated by displaying the Flag of Europe. \nThe Schuman Declaration was made by French Foreign Minister Robert Schuman on May 9\, 1950. In his proposal\, Schuman called for the creation of a European Coal and Steel Community\, which would pool the coal and steel resources of several European countries. This initiative aimed to promote economic cooperation and prevent future conflicts by integrating key industries that had previously been used for military purposes. The idea was to bind European nations together through economic interdependence\, making war between them unthinkable.

The chief of the group Leif Eriksen\, was the son of Erik Redbeard born in Norway and later moved to Iceland. \nIn USA they are usually celebrating this event on the 9 October as a holiday. In the Nordics it is rare to observe this occasion. As his birthplace Greenland is a part of the Danish Kingdom this unique story of Viking Trade is of cultural and historical interest. Inspired by the latest Netflix series Viking Valhalla which are closer to the historical facts\, we feel this could be a great occasion to celebrate here in Thailand at the Eastern Seaboard at the Danish restaurant Bryghuset Jomtien.
