DESCRIPTION:Dear Members and Friends\, \nThe Institute of Security and International Studies together with Chulalongkorn University are inviting you to a Public Forum on “Global Unravel\, Great-Power Conflict\, Middle Powers\, and Small-State Dilemmas: Perspectives from Southeast Asia and New Zealand” on Tuesday\, 2nd September 2025 at 09.30 – 11.30. \nThe broad unravelling of the international system is no longer in doubt. This geostrategic and adverse turn of events is profound and unprecedented. It is underpinned by an ongoing and dynamic geopolitical confrontation and geo-economic conflict between the United States and China\, the preeminent great powers so far in the 21st century. At issue in the ongoing global unravel is its speed\, direction\, consequences\, and meanings. How US-China contestation unfolds will determine the shape and form of the international system to come. \nThe whereabout and date and time and contact details appears on the poster. DESCRIPTION:The Thai language is a unique language in many ways but also have its cousins in the region countries like Laos\, China\, Northern Myanmar and even in Assam\, India. \nFirst of all\, it is a tonal language and most likely the most tonal language in the world. It is a monosyllabic language and has quite easy grammar. Partly due to the tones the syllables can be short or long. All of which has a logical explanation. \nThe Thai language has been formed by wars\, migrations\, geographical\, and cultural circumstances. Apart from the loanwords the Chinese and Tai language the two languages shares a common origin in Southwest China. \nDuring the introduction to the Thai language\, you will be given the background and historical understanding of the syllables\, tones etc. in a cultural and geographical context. You will be introduced to speaking and hearing the language and how to avoid major mistakes in learning the language. This introduction will help you remember and strengthen your vocabulary in a fun and motivating way. \nThe lecturer Michael Andersen holds B.A. in Southeast Asian realia and Thai linguistics from the University of Copenhagen. \nProgramme \n1800 – 1900 Geographical and cultural settings for the evolution of the Thai Languages and linguistic peculiarities. Components of the Thai language. \n1900 – 2000 Introduction to learn Thai with DTCC. Material will be sent to registered guests beforehand.
