The debate on alcohol ban on advertisement or keeping the alcohol sale restrictions has been an ongoing issue in Thailand for decades.
Now it seems the parliament of Thailand has voted for lifting the ban on advertisement of alcoholic beverages as well the 1400 – 1700 daily restriction on sale of alcohol. However, in the end the senators will have a final say on this.
Prohibitions have failed many countries and places all over the world and often encourage corruption and black-market business instead. The prohibition period in USA was an excellent example of a failed campaign, but very successful for criminals.
Information and education on the dangers of alcohol, smoking etc. should be put in place starting from schools and the parents, not only as campaigns but as permanent subject in the school curriculum. Prohibition should only be seen as a last resort.
