The Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) has been assigned by the committee to make use of the 369 million baht from the bypass gas fund to reduce the fuel tariff (FT) for May through August, to subsidise the price of electricity for households which consume less than 200 units/month.

Thailand will reduce electricity costs for households to 3 baht per unit for those using up to 200 units per month, benefiting around 20 million homes. The new rate is expected to take effect in June 2026.

The policy also includes a solar energy buyback scheme at about 2.20 baht per unit, encouraging households to install rooftop solar and sell excess power.

Energy Minister Akanat Promphan said the ERC also agreed to promote the installation and use of rooftop solar panels by agreeing to purchase the surplus electricity generated for 10 years.

The move is part of broader efforts to ease living costs and promote clean energy, alongside upgrades to power infrastructure and support for renewable energy adoption.
