A proposal to reduce Thailand’s visa-free stay from 60 days to 30 days may not address the real issues, according to recent discussion. The measure aims to prevent illegal work and misuse of the visa system, but there is limited evidence that the length of stay is the main cause.
Most tourists already stay in Thailand for less than 30 days. Those who intend to break the rules may not be affected by a shorter permitted stay. The change could send a less welcoming message and may impact Thailand’s attractiveness as a tourist destination.
It is still complimentary though, and visitors who wish to stay longer can apply for the appropriate visa. As we cannot confirm if this will be implemented, we advise you to contact your local embassy.
