ECCO, the Danish shoemaker, reported record results for 2013 with profit after tax up 16%.

The company which uniquely controls every step of the shoemaking process with its own tanneries, shoe factories, distribution centers and wholesale and retail activities declared its best results ever with a net revenue of EUR 1.1 billion, profit before tax of EUR 165 million and profit after tax of EUR 106 million.

ECCO grew the number of dedicated ECCO shops and shop-in-shops to 2,989, and ECCO shoes are now sold from 15,000 sales points in 87 countries.

ECCO Thailand celebrated 20 years of operations in Thailand with the redevelopment and full renovation of the factory in Ayutthaya, comprising of tannery and shoe factory, which were destroyed in the November 2011 flooding. The shoe factory will further expand operations over the next 12 months, adding hundreds of new jobs to the already existing 3,000.

“We are very pleased with the newly renovated factory,” says Bo Grabowski, Managing Director of ECCO Thailand. “It confirms ECCO’s decision to stay in, and continue be, committed to Thailand.”

ECCO also recently chose Thailand as home for ECCO’s new internal shoe and leather making Academies, where young people from ECCO’s global production activities will be trained for future management roles.

In line with the forthcoming ASEAN Economic Community in 2015, ECCO retail is expanding its activities in South East Asia with Thailand nominated as one of the core markets. ECCO opened two more dedicated shops in Thailand in 2013 and further openings are scheduled for 2014 and 2015.
