A modern and well managed port sector is crucial to South East Asia’s economic progress and to expanding global trading routes. Development of the ports infrastructure is therefore a growing priority in such an extensive archipelagic region of some 24,000 islands which span 5,200km east to west and 3,400km from north to south. Indonesia, Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, Vietnam, and the Philippines are currently planning to upgrading or building new port facilities.
Envisioned to be a forum for the ASEAN port community to connect, network, share, and debate, 2nd Port Development South East Asia Summit 2020 (PDSEAS 2020) is going to take place during 23rd – 24th June, 2020 in Thailand. Featured speakers invited are from port authorities, port & terminal operators, shipping lines, leading equipment manufacturers, solutions providers, investors, etc.
When it comes to Thailand, several projects are worth mentioning. Regarding the Map Ta Phut Industrial Port Phase 3 (worth 55.4 billion baht, on 1,000 rai), IEAT awarded the contract to Gulf MTP LNG Terminal under PPP model on 1st Oct. 2019. For Laem Chabang Port Phase 3, the Central Administrative Court on September 27 issued a ruling that NPC Consortium’s bid for the project still acceptable. PAT has ambitious plans to revamp Klong Toey to turn the port area in Bangkok into a world-class trading centre, which will cost 490 billion baht over two phases spanning 20 years, though this plan needs the approval from cabinet. Thai government looks to revive Pak Bara and Songkhla deep-sea port projects.
Based on the success of PDSEAS 2019, we expect that 30+ industry thought leaders and 200+ senior executives from government agencies, port authorities, port & terminal operators, shipping lines, port equipment suppliers, solution providers, investors, bankers, insurancers, etc. will join this 2nd high profile event. We are confident that PDSEAS 2020 will offer all the stakeholders advantage to network, liaise and learn prospects & opportunities in South East Asia port and shipping business. PDSEAS 2020 is unmissable!
